Tinkertown, an indie sandbox base-builder and RPG from developer and publisher Headup, has announced the full 1.0 version will release on June 22nd, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam, and is now Steam Deck verified. There’s currently no word on a console port.
Tinkertown is currently available in Early Access on Steam. However, the full launch is expected to add a few key features. These include a new Journal, a relationship system for NPCs, an endgame dungeon, an assortment of upcoming events and more. You can watch today’s new release date trailer on publisher Thunderful Games’ YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer is more of a gameplay overview for newcomers who may not have played the Early Access version. This should be helpful, but it mainly lists a lot of familiar base building and RPG mechanics.
If the goal was to intrigue new players, it would’ve been nice if the list also acknowledged some of Tinkertown’s more distinguishable activities. Instead, those were saved for the end, such as building teleporters, playing volleyball, making ice cream, and more. Some light fishing is featured in the trailer, but that’s pretty basic RPG relaxation.
Either way, the versatility is definitely an important hook for Tinkertown, which has a surprisingly flexible crafting system. You can make just about anything in the game, which lives up to the title, and allows players to get really creative. According to the game’s Steam page, there are literally hundreds of different items to craft.
This is supported by the gorgeous pixel art, which makes it a joy to discover how your work will pay off. There’s also an emphasis on cooperative gameplay, and sharing such a dense world is always fun.
