IXION, the highly praised space station management sim and city builder from developer Bulwark Studios and publisher Kasedo Games, will release the new Difficulty Options Update next week on May 8th, 2023. It’s expected to be available around 10 AM eastern time.

The update will feature Journey, Default, Challenge, and a customizable option. Here’s the big announcement from the official IXION Twitter feed:

IXION has some extraordinary visuals that help capture the scope and mood of outer space. However, the game’s greatest appeal is certainly the grounded approach to science-fiction. Its theme drives the features, and there are many tough, intriguing obstacles that other developers might have overlooked for a space station.

As a result, IXION can also be a tremendously difficult experience, for both skilled players and newcomers alike. Many players who may have simply been attracted by the concepts were probably quickly overwhelmed.

According to today’s new blog on the Steam page, those who enjoy the challenges of the setting and premise will stand a much better chance of reaching the endgame in “Journey” mode.

Some of the more difficult features will be turned off altogether, and players will have an easier time with their crew, discovering resources, and contending with hazards. This should create more of an adventure, since the narrative will be allowed to flow more freely and quickly. It remains to be seen if the gameplay will become too breezy, but there are certainly still plenty of things to manage.

For those who are genre experts, the update will also bring an even harder “Challenge” mode, where things are literally falling apart. But the customizable option is undoubtedly the real highlight. Giving players the freedom to balance out the game for their own style will lead to far more enjoyment, and it should definitely renew interest months after launch.
