Like a Dragon: Ishin!, the highly anticipated sequel in the hit Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, has just shown off some new gameplay in an overview featuring Gunman combat. Like a Dragon: Ishin! will launch on February 21, 2023, for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Here’s the full trailer from Sega’s YouTube channel:
Like a Dragon: Ishin! will be available almost to the day of the original launch, back in 2014. It was released so long ago, that modern audiences will likely be unfamiliar, so a few reminders of the gameplay styles are probably justified. Although, Like a Dragon: Ishin! was already available on PlayStation 4, so it also warranted a remake.
However, aside from the wider release, one of the big selling points for this remaster is the Unreal Engine 4 power. Ideally, the graphics will look much smoother and detailed by the time of release, even if the gameplay hasn’t aged a day and still looks very rewarding.
The description in today’s new overview adds that special ammunition has the ability to poison, blind, and set enemies on fire. PlayStation has smartly invested in the Yakuza IP lately, adding Yakuza: Like a Dragon to the PlayStation Plus lineup in August. More titles in the series have been featured too, so there’s hope for the Like a Dragon: Ishin! remake to eventually be added to their subscription library.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! reached a high bar for the series, solving issues from previous installments while keeping the same attitude and balanced gameplay. The devs leaned into stylized action, which allowed for playful and satisfying combat like the Gunman Style, even if it does contrast the setting a bit.
