SEGA made a bold move bringing Sonic the Hedgehog to the Roblox platform and it appears to have paid off as of now.

While the move might have seemed a bit confusing to bring SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog to Roblox, it has appeared to payoff. The game has had peaks of over 100,000 players active simultaneously, gotten over 200,000 likes, and has had 28.6 million players visit the game as of this writing. These are massive numbers and is likely one of the most successful brand pairings to come to the platform thus far.

The game has been steadily received over 5 million visits each day since release according to RoMonitor Stats, which is a website that tracks Roblox games. This is an impressive debut, and shows that the game has staying power due to the lack of drop off happening so far.

These numbers put Sonic Speed Simulator in the lofty company of games like Pet Simulator X, Blox Fruits, Adopt Me, and Brookhaven RP who have been reigning atop the Roblox charts for a while now. Whether or not they will be able to keep this momentum up is unknown, but they are sure off to a good start.

One of the biggest reasons for the success just appears to be that the game is fun and well-made. Gamefam Studios, who are responsible for other popular Roblox titles, such as Military Tycoon and Car Dealership Tycoon, were able to harness what makes Sonic stand apart. This is apparent due to the over 94% rating on the game, and boasting over 200,000 likes.

This stands as a shining example of what a brand can accomplish when they are able to find the right balance between fun and promotion. On the other side of the spectrum, you will find the NFL’s foray onto the platform, which received over 4.7 million visits but currently has a 34.78% rating and very few players. Even Nike, who is well-known for their branding, hasn’t been able to maintain much of a playerbase.

With this type of success, it remains to be seen what other gaming companies might lend their IP to developers on the platform to see if they can take advantage of what Roblox has to offer.
