Last year, Traveler’s Tales launched Lego Starwars: The Skywalker Saga, their most ambitious Lego game to date. The game was hugely successful, selling over 3.2 million copies in the first two weeks after its launch, but the development of the game was not without its problems.
Not only did Traveler’s Tales reportedly have issues with their new in-house engine NTT, but the studio apparently was drought with time crunch and other poor working conditions during the game’s development.
It has recently come to light that the problematic development of The Skywalker Saga has also led to several other Traveler’s Tales titles being canceled, due in part to budgetary problems.
A Lego Disney game known internally as “Project Melody” featured a ton of Disney properties, including Pirates of the Caribbean, Winnie the Poo and The Muppets, and would feature a large overworld and challenging dungeons for players to complete.
Apparently, the TT team was struggling with the direction of this Lego Disney title and eventually canned the project after the breakout success of Disney Dreamlight Valley, which featured similar ideas and may have directly competed with the game.
While Project Melody appears to be the largest of the canceled Traveler’s Tales projects, it doesn’t seem to be the only one. According to Nintendolife, several other titles were canned at the studio, each for different reasons.
A non-Lego shooter called “Project Rainbow Road” was apparently being worked on at TT. Originally a Funko-Pop-based game that featured characters from DC, Rick & Morty, and other Warner Bros. IP, TT lost the Funko license and was unable to salvage the game they had developed.
“Project Cosmic” was apparently a Lego game based on the Guardians of the Galaxy, but was scrapped after 18 months of development without a clear reason as to why. A mobile port of Lego Worlds known internally as “Project Lego X” was also apparently scrapped.
More bad news for Lego fans, apparently a Mandolorian DLC for The Skywalker Saga may also be in danger of being cancelled. While the character is already in the game, the studio apparently had been working on a large narrative based DLC for the character, but this alongside a Lego Batman game may be cancelled due to the demands of a Lego Harry Potter project.
