Hi-Rez Studios has prepared a new crossover event for their free-to-play action MOBA, SMITE. This time, the elite operatives of the G.I. Joe franchise and their nemesis are joining the Battleground of the Gods.
In a new trailer, SMITE showcased the characters to be featured in the upcoming SMITE x G.I. JOE Crossover Event. During the event, players will be able to purchase skins styled by iconic G.I. Joe Agents and their Cobra nemesis. These skins include Cobra Commander and Duke for Hou Yi, Baroness and Scarlett for Neith, Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes for Susano, and Scarlett and Baroness for Hou Yi. Take a look at the SMITE x G.I. Details about the upcoming SMITE x G.I. JOE Crossover Event are very limited at this time, but it was confirmed to launch on April 18th as part of Update 10.4. The prices of the cosmetics have not been disclosed yet, but will likely be around 600 to 1500 Gems each. As with previous crossover events, there might be also new quests for players to complete that offer rewards based on the G.I. Joe quest they select.
Considering the prior crossover events, featuring TMNT, Transformer, and the upcoming G.I. Joe crossover, it appears that Hi-Rez is heading on a route of bringing random IPs to SMITE. While the crossover events seem to be well-executed and have enticed new fandoms to check out the game, some players have expressed concern that the amount of crossover content in the game is becoming overwhelming at this point. They suggest that Hi-Rez should take a break from the crossover events for a while and focus on developing new and original cosmetics for the Gods.
