There has been some criticism for SMITE’s extensive roster of deities, which continues to grow exponentially over the years. But it is also one of SMITE’s greatest strengths. The devs are consistently achieving better representation and discovering Gods with even more elaborate powers.

Ix Chel is a welcome addition to the available Gods, with a gorgeous art design, full of vibrant colors and flowing attire that includes a variety of cultural references. Also, Ix Chel’s voice lines have a lax gravitas, which is commanding in a unique way compared to some of the traditionally boisterous deities.

Ix Chel’s “weaving” theme is seen throughout all of her abilities, which have an unusual degree of synergy, both with each other and teammates. She even buffs herself with the passive, and players will be rewarded for stringing pretty much anything together. Surprisingly, the orbs of her Rainbow Crash will be very unpredictable, and difficult to counter on the battlefield.

As a result, she will definitely become a formidable tank that also possesses healing. Although any new God is often met with concerns, Ix Chel may actually be a little broken, and require some balancing after launch. However, it will surely be a delight to play in the meantime.
