Developer and publisher Soedesco has revealed Truck Driver: The American Dream, a new game in their ongoing sim series, with a new teaser. While there are only a few glimpses of gameplay, the teaser also sets up the basic premise through narration. We incorrectly reported this as DLC earlier today, based on Soedesco’s pinned tweet and not the follow-up that makes it clear this is a new title.
Truck Driver: The American Dream doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected to release sometime this year. Truck Driver originally launched in 2021 and is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. You can watch today’s teaser for the new game on Soedesco’s YouTube channel:
Truck Driver has been mostly divisive since launch, but this is largely due to the technical side of the game. The genre is unexpectedly busy, to the point that American Truck Simulator has recently added in-game billboards for trucking jobs in real life. With this level of competition, Truck Driver is considered far too casual, lacking the necessary depth.
However, Truck Driver’s streamlined approach is often one of the most winning qualities. Players can enjoy the experience without having to manage so much. Even the graphics are relatively The main hook of Truck Driver is actually its narrative, and today’s teaser focuses on that.
Players already have to build their career from nothing in the base game, so that premise isn’t especially creative. It may not compare to the likes of the Heading North DLC. However, the new footage is also surprisingly grim, creating a realistic sense of struggle.
The combination of the personal and professional conflict in today’s teaser should create more of an underdog tale, and there still aren’t enough details to consider the overall plot. There have been quite a few DLCs that simply introduced new paint jobs, so it’s nice to finally see a new title.
