EarthX, an upcoming indie sim where players manage a spaceflight company, is now slated for a full release on July 12th, 2023. Developed by Denis and Ry, the game will be available on PC via Steam and GOG, as well as the Nintendo Switch.
Earth X originally launched into Early Access in 2019 with publisher Mesote Games, and that version is available now on Steam. The upcoming Nintendo Switch port was supported by publisher Pineapple Works.
The developers strangely waited until today to announce the full release date in a new tweet, after Pineapple Works revealed it yesterday in a gameplay trailer for the Switch port. You can watch the Switch version’s trailer on their YouTube channel:
EarthX has a very balanced approach, combining low poly art with a surprisingly complex gameplay loop that still has intuitive controls. The result is both fairly casual, yet also engaging enough to keep fans of the genre interested.
There are certainly some staples of familiar management sims, but EarthX has a nuanced sense of humor, and occasionally turns to odd little details that would ordinarily be overlooked.
Sure, players will be handling contracts, recovering rockets, and investing in new tech. However, you’ll also have the choice to profit from satellites that give people on Earth their internet. You’ll even have a relationship with the International Space Station, and you can produce nukes if you want.
Between flights, fundraisers and new planets, EarthX has many quirks that are certain to intrigue fans of space and management sims. By comparison, Kerbal Space Program 2 has been on a miserable uphill climb since launching into Early Access last February with serious issues and a steep price tag. Dismayed fans ought to try out this little indie.
