I still do not understand how you get rumor from a “spot of tea.

    1. Jorge A. Aguilar

Hey! I totally see where you can be confused. So the conventional understanding of spot of tea helps us get the answer. In the UK as well as some places in the US, two people will come together and discuss the events of the neighborhood or their friends, leading to rumors being spread or just general information given. They do this over a cup of tea, coffee, or whatever drink you’d like. In the UK, cup of tea can be used but you could also mean another drink.

This has become so ingrained in our pop culture that there is a saying: “give me the tea,” which means to give the information that you would normally give while you had tea with another: details, rumors, or gossip. =)
