The Dragon Quest series has been around for a very long time and is credited for introducing a range of new elements to the role-playing game genre. Several entries in the series have already appeared on PC, consoles, handheld devices, and even mobile phones.

Dragon Quest Walk, the first Dragon Quest mobile game for Android and iOS, was launched by Square Enix in September 2019 exclusively in Japan. It is an AR role-playing video game developed by COLOPL and published by Square Enix. Despite being relatively comparable to Pokémon Go, it has not achieved the same degree of worldwide popularity since it was not localized for other languages.

In a recent livestream, Square Enix announced that they are working with Koei Tecmo to develop a new Dragon Quest mobile game for iOS and Android called Dragon Quest Champions. In the past, Koei Tecmo has collaborated with Square Enix on the production of the action game titled Dragon Quest Heroes. Takuma Shiraishi of Square Enix is serving as the producer, while Tomohiko Sho of Koei Tecmo is contributing as the chief director.

The recognizable command-based combat system from previous installments returns in Dragon Quest Champions. Meanwhile, the premise of the story appears to revolve around a young person (the player) who departs a village to take part in a “Heroic Fighting Tournament” that was left behind by a great hero from ancient times. As such, players will strive to win tournaments of wisdom and courage against a variety of enemies to become true heroes.

Dragon Quest Champions will have a Tournament mode that can accommodate up to 50 players to go head-to-head in battle. In addition, there is a substantial amount of content for players to enjoy on their own, such as the Story Mode and several quests.

Even with how amazing the game appears to be, Square Enix has not yet revealed whether Dragon Quest Champions will have a global launch. Furthermore, the game’s specific release date remains unconfirmed as of now.
