Square Enix has revealed plans to release its live-action mystery adventure game, The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story, on iOS and Android devices. The game, which first debuted on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on May 12, 2022, will be available for purchase on the App Store and Google Play starting April 25 at a special launch price of $17.99.
The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story, a unique mystery-adventure game, is directed by Koichiro Ito, known for his work on Metal Gear Solid V. Yasuhito Tachibana, the producer behind Netflix’s The Naked Director, contributes as both the cinematographer and scenario director. The game combines live-action footage with engaging puzzles to create an immersive gameplay experience.
Players take on the role of Haruka Kagami, an aspiring mystery novelist who becomes entangled in a series of murders spanning a century. The game’s narrative explores the Shijima family’s history of inexplicable deaths across three different time periods—1922, 1972, and 2022.
The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story features gameplay divided into three distinct phases: the Incident phase, the Reasoning phase, and the Solution phase. Players witness each murder in its entirety during the Incident phase, collecting clues and uncovering mysteries essential for solving the case. In the Reasoning phase, players create hypotheses based on the evidence gathered, but not all hypotheses will be accurate. Finally, during the Solution phase, players must identify the killer by selecting the correct hypothesis while defending their reasoning against attempts to refute their claims.
As Haruka Kagami, players will delve into the secrets of the Shijima family, uncovering the truth behind the mysterious red camellia and the Fruit of Youth, which bring only death. The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story offers an intriguing and challenging mystery that will captivate players as they unravel a century-old enigma.
