Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the highly anticipated sequel in Cal Kestis’ story from developer Respawn and publisher Electronic Arts, has just released an all-new story trailer. It features a blend of cinematics and gameplay, teasing new characters, boss fights, and more.
The game is still slated to launch on the rescheduled release date of April 28th, 2023. It will be available on PC, as well as next generation consoles for PlayStation and Xbox. Here’s the full story trailer from the EA Star Wars YouTube channel:
Story trailers tend to rely more on atmospheric cinematics and some light narration, but today’s trailer included a surprising amount of gameplay. All of the new footage looks just as thrilling as ever, though expectations are high after the overwhelming success of its predecessor.
The cinematics of the new trailer set up a variety of key things for context, such as the jump in time, and Cal’s goals to evade the empire altogether. Although the monologue about fire was probably a little corny, all of the voice lines revealed today hint at another character-driven installment.
And that approach played a big role in the success of the first game. Cal’s story has always managed to blend the austere, grounded approach seen in Andor with the joyful adventures at the core of the overall Star Wars universe. Similarly, today’s trailer successfully balanced some darker sequences of violence and drama with flashy action and speed.
The gameplay showed off some very promising duels, wall-running, grappling, and other key mechanics that are consistent with the previous game. It’d be nice to see even more elaboration, but the original controls were already delicately balanced and tough to master.
