The review embargo for Bethesda’s latest title, Starfield, has finally been lifted. Reviews from the top websites across the internet are sharing their thoughts on the new title. While opinions seem to vary, Starfield has received some of the best review scores of any title of the game, with a number of press sites giving the game perfect scores.
One such perfect review comes from Video Games Chronicle, with author Jordan Middler calling it the “ultimate Bethesda game” due to its expansion of what players already loved about past titles. This open sentiment was shared by GamesRadar+‘s Leon Hurley, who gave it five stars and states “With this kind of freedom, ‘avoiding the main mission’ is the main mission.”
However, there were arguably more scores that rate it as average, with PC Gamer‘s Christopher Livingston giving it a 7.5 and the Washington Post‘s Gene Park giving it four stars. Both of the reviews compliment Bethesda on recreating the feel of the expansiveness of past Bethesda titles but state it falls short of the ambitions it set for itself.
Game Informer‘s Mat Miller gave the title an 8.5, saying that while it did take a while to love Starfield, they had a hard time appreciating everything the title did. GameSpot gave it a much more average score at 7, commenting on the title’s “shallow RPG systems and uninspired vision of the cosmos.”
