The Thaumaturge is an upcoming isometric, story-rich role-playing game developed by Fool’s Theory and published by 11 bit studios. In this game, players will engage in a unique turn-based combat, while they are faced with morally ambiguous choices in the culturally diverse world of early 20th-century Warsaw, brimming with mysterious powers and strange ethereal entities.
Formerly known as the latest project of Fool’s Theory with the codename “Vitriol,” The Thaumaturge has now been officially announced to launch soon for PC via Steam, GOG.com, and Epic Games Store. Take a look at The Thaumaturge – Official Announcement Trailer, courtesy of IGN’s official Youtube channel:
The events of The Thaumaturge take place in the year 1905, at a time when Warsaw lives under the yoke of imperial Russian tsardom. Its residents come from different ancestries and hold a variety of beliefs, and their interests are often at odds with one another. Thaumaturges, known as individuals skilled in taming spirit-like beings called Salutors, also exist in this world. They are often used for manipulation of the temperaments and affinities of other people and even in combat.
As they explore the old Warsaw, players will create their own version of the Thaumaturge to allow them to approach situations in different ways. Players will use this power to get an edge while exploring the world and even bringing their adversaries to their knees. In this unique turn-based combat, players will defeat their enemies by employing both human attacks and skills as well as psychic strikes provided by Salutors.
The Thaumaturge‘s announcement trailer provided a few glimpses of Salutors as well as the setting of the story-driven RPG. Meanwhile, the isometric design and its unique take on turn-based combat have yet to be showcased. Nonetheless, The Thaumaturge already appears to be a promising title from Fool’s Theory, with its dark yet stunning graphics that have captured the atmosphere of early 20th century Warsaw.
You can add The Thaumaturge to your Steam wishlist now to be alerted when it releases for PC.
