Classified: France ’44, the historical turn-based WWII game from developer Absolutely Games and publisher Team17, has officially delayed its release to “early 2024”, according to a new post on Steam.
An exact release date was not confirmed, and the devs haven’t given an official reason for the delay. However, they did reveal a new trailer featuring central characters and more gameplay, perhaps to ease any potential disappointment.

Classified: France ’44 was initially expected to launch this year, which is quickly winding down. It is likely the game simply needed more time for a smooth launch, which fans have predominantly supported for many other games.
Classified: France ’44 is clearly a smaller title and surely needed more polishing, though it may also be one of many releases that hoped to avoid the cluttered October slate. Even Alone in the Dark, which would have benefited from an October release, cited both the busy month and polishing time for its recent delay announcement.
Surprisingly, Classified: France ’44 has largely gone under the radar to begin with, simply for its familiar premise. It’s possible not too many casual gamers will even mind the delay.
However, publisher Team17 has a proven record of successful titles, and there are a couple of twists in Classified: France ’44 that should spark interest. For example, players will get to build their own missions in the “Classified System” and share them with the community.
It also implements a morale system, which is basically another thematic resource to manage. And there seems to be a lot of effort put into the historical authenticity of the world.
