Aeternum Game Studios has revealed that Summum Aeterna, the prequel to Aeterna Noctis and a unique roguelike game, will exit early access and officially launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store in September. The announcement came through a Twitter post from the developer.
The game initially entered early access for PC on June 16 and has since gained traction as a side-scrolling roguelike that incorporates innovative world crawler mechanics, fast-paced combat, and a distinctive 2D art style. Players assume the role of the King of Darkness, a formidable warlord, as they navigate unexplored territories filled with treasures, traps, enemies, and powerful bosses.
The “Legacy of the Arcana” update is slated for release on April 19, offering new content such as a new seed influence, genetic improvements, and multiplayer rankings with rewards for the top three players. This update aims to enrich the early access version of Summum Aeterna further.
Summum Aeterna features a permanent character and world upgrade system, allowing players to retain their progress even after being defeated. The game includes a unique world generator system called the Seed Mechanic, which generates distinct worlds with varying enemy behavior, special events, and map sizes based on the seed’s rarity and genes.
The game’s fast-paced combat and action are complemented by an array of weapon options, customization, and the opportunity to acquire gems, which enhance weapon attributes and provide additional upgrades. Each weapon, seed, and gem in Summum Aeterna has a rarity level that determines its benefits, and players can unlock special rooms, modify the rarity of seeds, and upgrade their character skills.
The hand-drawn 2D animation of Summum Aeterna sets it apart visually, with every asset, enemy, NPC, and animation crafted meticulously by the developers. This attention to detail helps create an immersive and engaging gaming experience for players.
