Squad Busters, an upcoming mash-up of various beloved Supercell characters, will officially hold a Closed Beta between February 6th and February 16th, 2023. According to Squad Busters’ official site, the Closed Beta will only be available for Canadian Android users, and is mainly intended to “verify gameplay”, so player progression will not be saved.
However, alongside the announcement of the Closed Beta, Squad Busters’ Twitter account also included a brief teaser today, showing off some of the gameplay that fans can expect:
Supercell, the mobile game developer from Finland, is best known for Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars, both of which have continued to succeed for years. They smartly make the most of their mobile platform, with easygoing mechanics, a charming art style, and playful gameplay.
There has been a lot of buzz about Squad Busters, which plans to unite the Supercell universe. Today’s teaser doesn’t show very much, but it does reveal all of the characters in-game together, so it should bring a grin to longtime fans.
Multiverse settings are all the rage right now, especially following the enormous success of MultiVersus, which has already enjoyed countless updates like the launch of Season 2 last November. Combining all of the IP you own is generally a good idea if the mechanics and premise are suitable.
Squad Busters has the potential to bring in a new audience with this approach. But the gameplay needs to justify why all of these characters are together, and further, give them something worthwhile to aim for.
Hopefully, the Closed Beta will allow Squad Busters to share a little more about the state of the game, and plans for the future. For now, today’s teaser looks fun enough. Watching all the characters run away from their enemy at the last second was genuinely amusing.
