Stranded: Alien Dawn, a new planet survival sim from developer Haemimont Games and publisher Frontier Foundry, has revealed a free Jungle Update will roll out on June 29th, 2023. The major update will feature the new jungle region Saltu, bringing new resources, wildlife and more according to a lengthy official blog posted today. The full patch notes will be released with the Jungle Update.
Stranded: Alien Dawn launched last April, and is available now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. For a quick overview of the gameplay, you can watch the launch trailer from Xbox’s YouTube channel:
The Jungle Update is set to introduce some interesting new challenges, making the most of its new climate with an emphasis on heat and disease. These will directly compromise your resources, which is an inventive way to create something thematically fresh, since Stranded: Alien Dawn already provided a fair range of environments.
Fortunately, the new survivor Melody Adeyemi is a healer, who is deliberately designed to contend with Saltu, which should help balance out some of the tougher additions.
Stranded: Alien Dawn’s new update will also add some quality-of-life improvements like Area Flags and Work Areas. The game did need some more flexibility, and these new layers of management are sure to please fans of the genre.
Overall, the devs seem to have built an interesting new region that escalates the difficulty, while also offering enough solutions to meet the challenge.
Something as simple as the Survivor Tools, which should have been available at launch, is going to make a big difference. Crafting and trading helpful tools is a crucial mechanic in survival games, and they shouldn’t compromise the tension or urgency.
