Tin Can, a space survival sim from developer Tin Can Studio, will finally launch onto PlayStation on April 27th, 2023. Published by Klabater, it will be available on both current and last-gen consoles. Here’s the full release date trailer from the official PlayStation YouTube channel:
Tin Can originally launched out of Early Access on May 12th, 2022, and is currently available on Steam, where players can already try out a demo. There are also plans for the game to be released on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, according to a recent trailer from publisher Klabater’s YouTube channel:
Tin Can greatly emphasizes survival, and today’s new trailer really sells the claustrophobia and tension. It is far more of a juggling act than one might expect, but it has also been praised for that unique approach. Despite subverting expectations, it still boasts a high level of detail in its technology, and the spirit of science.
The console teaser from two weeks ago feels intentionally misleading so the game can surprise fans. If you were hoping for spacewalks and some carefree tinkering, you might look to Space Mechanic Simulator instead, which recently announced a release date for next month.
Since Tin Can isn’t necessarily aiming for a totally immersive experience, per se, it should translate just fine to consoles. Next-gen tech should certainly be beneficial for visual improvements.
Hopefully, some of the interactions and technical flaws will be cleaned up, since some fans have complained about stiff controls and other typical hiccups for indies. It would be fun to see Tin Can on the PS VR2 sometime, but VR itself is probably a little too troublesome already.
