Ahead of its release this October 2023, Bandai Namco has revealed more details about the upcoming Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, featuring its narrative and gameplay.

Sword Art Online: Last Recollection is an action RPG by developer Aquaria, based on the hit light novel by Reki Kawahara and acclaimed anime series that follows the adventures of the protagonist, Kirito, within the next-generation Virtual Reality MMORPG known as Sword Art Online.

SAO: Last Recollection is the latest entry in the SAO game series and is based on a brand-new story arc called “War of Underworld,” which is exclusive to this game. It also features more characters and episodes than any previous entry in the series to portray a setting that is distinct from the one depicted in the source material and the anime. This chapter examines what might have transpired if Kirito, Eugeo, and their comrades had not met their deaths in the previous chapter. Players will take control of Kirito and his crew as they engage in combat against the evil forces that inhabit the Dark Territory.

Sword Art Online: Last Recollection features high-speed battles, MMO-like multiplayer, over 40 playable characters, and the largest number of unique endings. It is set to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 5th, and on Steam on October 6th, 2023. Recently, Bandai Namco released a new trailer, showcasing the story and gameplay of SAO: Last Recollection:

The new trailer focuses primarily on the game’s cutscenes and not much on the gameplay, except for a few glimpses at the boss battles. SAO: Last Recollection seems to retain most of the gameplay elements from the previous SAO: Alicization Lycoris, owing to the same intense and high-speed battles that are showcased in the trailer. Given that it deviates from both the original material and the anime, it is quite likely that its primary purpose is to promote a unique and intriguing alternative plot.

Sword Art Online: Last Recollection is now available for pre-order on the Bandai Namco Entertainment website, with some exciting bonuses offered, such as Weapon Skins.
