The Sword Art Online series started out as a series of web novels before being adapted into a hit anime, showing protagonist Kirito surviving in a strange MMORPG world. Naturally, the series has gone on to inspire multiple game adaptations, with the latest, Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, giving a new story trailer ahead of release on Oct. 6 this year.
In the trailer, players can see the series protagonist Kirito working hard to fight against the oppressive forces creating a dark area in SAO: Last Recollection. He mentions having no problem fighting off gods if that’s what he has to do to protect his friends. There are a number of characters from the anime shown backing him up as he works to rid the world of the darkness.
The new SAO game boasts that it is the culmination of all the titles that came before it, allowing for the ultimate franchise experience. It’s also supposedly bringing the most playable characters and “sub scenarios” from past SAO game entries, allowing for even further immersion in the MMORPG world where the series takes place.
SAO: Last Recollection is based on the War of Underworld anime arc, with a new narrative and challenges unfolding that Kirito and his allies will have to respond to. With hard work and teamwork, players will be able to unmask the Dark Knight and survive the Dark Territory. Taking inspiration from classic MMORPGs, the battles are designed to look similar to the epic scenarios in those titles.
Players can currently pre-order Sword Art Online: Last Recollection for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series S, X, and One.
