Prime Matter and Nightdive Studios have announced that the highly anticipated remake of the 1994 game System Shock has gone gold. The reimagined version of the classic shooter/immersive sim is set to launch digitally on Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store at 08:00 PDT/17:00 CEST on May 30, 2023. The game had been delayed previously, which hopefully means that it will arrive in a fully working state.
The System Shock remake brings the iconic original game back to life with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, a revamped interface, and all-new sounds and music. Players can expect never-before-seen enemies, quality-of-life gameplay tweaks, a reimagined hacking system, and thrilling new combat options, including a brutal dismemberment system.
As players navigate the all-new areas of Citadel Station, they will face a host of hostile and mutated creatures, created and controlled by the notorious villainous AI, SHODAN. The game will challenge players to solve puzzles and utilize hacking skills to access new sectors of the station, combining stealth, cunning, and futuristic weaponry to survive.
Nightdive Studios collaborated with several members of the original System Shock team, including Terri Brosius, the voice of SHODAN, to ensure an authentic experience. The PC edition of System Shock is available for pre-order on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, and early buyers will receive a free copy of the upcoming System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition.
Console versions of System Shock are also in development for PlayStation 4|5 and Xbox One and Series S|X, with more details to be revealed in the future.
