Gloomhaven, developer Flaming Fowl Studios’ video game adaptation of the popular strategy board game, will officially launch on the Nintendo Switch on September 18th, 2023. Pre-orders have opened today. A new trailer shows off some of the gameplay and mechanics, as well as Gloomhaven’s many accolades.
Gloomhaven originally launched on PC in 2021 and is available now. You can watch the new announcement trailer for the Switch port on the Nintendo YouTube channel:
Gloomhaven is an extraordinary achievement, and a must-have for fans of tabletop gaming. It is widely considered the ultimate RPG experience, with some of the most extensive content imaginable. The board game boasts so many quests, it’s likely to last at least 100 hours. Gloomhaven will have you play a variety of heroes, evolving and retiring them as you explore a rich fantasy world.
In fact, Gloomhaven is so exhaustively designed, that the video game adaptation is a far more accessible way to approach the game. The devs have made a game that is authentic to the original experience, while taking care of a lot of bookkeeping. Its graphics may not be especially great, but it is fun to see animation for all of your familiar actions and worlds.
Gloomhaven is certain to succeed on the Nintendo Switch, since it is very likely to demand that you take it on the go in order to finish whatever you were doing. But the narrative isn’t bloated just for the sake of it. The story is legitimately compelling, and it has great synergy with the strategy of the game.
It is an epic that absolutely lives up to the hype, and the Gold Edition teased in today’s trailer will include even more content via DLC, making this a worthwhile pre-order.
