Fans of the video game Terraria are in for a treat as its creator Re-Logic and indie design studio Paper Fort Games announced a forthcoming tabletop adaptation of the popular sandbox game.

This ambitious project aims to combine the intricate mechanics of Terraria‘s digital game world, including biome exploration, character progression, base building, and epic combat, with traditional board game elements. Designed to offer a co-operative adventure, the game will feature a fresh new art style while preserving the essence of the original game, which should appeal to seasoned Terraria players and newcomers alike.

Expressing their excitement about the collaboration, Paper Fort Games shared their deep admiration for what Re-Logic, a small team, has accomplished with Terraria and their ongoing commitment to its community. The board game adaptation aims to translate the distinct universe of Terraria onto the tabletop, providing a new dimension to the Terraria experience.

The cooperative tabletop game, set to entertain 1-4 players, promises to maintain Terraria’s core ethos of dig, fight, explore, and build. The game’s new cover art offers players a glimpse into the adventurous journey that awaits them.

As for the game’s timeline, Terraria’s board game is still in the development stage, with the creators focusing on polishing the game to produce a quality final version. Thus, a launch within this year seems unlikely. More specific timelines will emerge closer to the crowdfunding stage, when the developers have a better grasp of the progress and scope of the project. Terraria fans should also look out for periodic spoilers, a tradition in the Terraria community.

Regarding purchase and crowdfunding, the creators plan to follow the usual board game industry practice of crowdfunding to reach the desired scope and quality level. Paper Fort Games, along with its sister company Stone Sword Games, has a commendable history in crowdfunding and successfully launching exceptional games. More specific details concerning crowdfunding—timing, amounts, reward levels—will be released in due course.

For those eager to keep abreast of Terraria: the Board Game developments, an early alpha prototype will be showcased at the UK Games Expo at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK from June 2nd to 4th, 2023. Paper Fort Games will be at stand 1-1025, and they invite Terraria enthusiasts to check out the prototype and share their thoughts.

Additionally, a sign-up link has been set up for those interested in receiving the latest news on Terraria: the Board Game.
