TerraScape, an indie city builder with strategic card mechanics from developer Bitfall Studios and publisher Toplitz Productions, has just released a new road map. It features the Foundation, Meta, Growth, and Voyage Updates, which span from Early Access to Full Release. This also revealed that the full launch is currently slated for Q1 of 2024.

TerraScape launched into Early Access this week on April 5th and is available on PC via Steam. Here’s the full roadmap announcement from TerraScape’s official Twitter feed:

TerraScape is an inventive and surprisingly ambitious indie, successfully combining two genres that shouldn’t really agree with each other. However, the devs managed to transform the randomness of card packs into a balanced strategic incentive.

The visuals are up to par with traditional city builders, with gorgeous colors and soft tones that feel both casual and detailed. They also have a handcrafted texture that helps create a tabletop atmosphere, so each environment tile does feel like it could have been a board game component.

For a look at some actual gameplay, you can review the Early Access trailer from the Toplitz Productions YouTube channel:

Today’s new roadmap looks very promising, and there’s even a “surprise” in store for next year. This could refer to a console release, since it’s looking so far ahead, but it’s really too vague to speculate on.

The Meta Update will smartly include both refinement and new features, and cooperative multiplayer is going to be a highlight. Although the competitive versus gameplay lines up with familiar area control and point-based board games, it isn’t really the best fit for TerraScape. Cooperation should be more interesting, as long as the game scales accordingly.

There are a lot more upcoming features than expected in each update. As long as TerraScape can keep pace, it’s heading towards a healthy and interesting full release.
