Ubisoft’s 2014 online-only racing game, The Crew, has been officially removed from all major digital storefronts, including Steam, Xbox store, and PlayStation store. This unexpected move has elicited mixed reactions from fans, especially those who have been enjoying the game until today.

The delisting of The Crew from Steam was initially spotted by a ResetEra user. The Steam page now indicates that all editions and additional content for The Crew are no longer available for purchase. The game will remain playable until March 31st, 2024. After this date, the game servers will shut down, which means the game will not be accessible anymore.

The Crew, a collaborative effort of developers Ubisoft Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections, was originally released for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, with an Xbox 360 port developed by Asobo Studio in December 2014. It features a persistent open-world environment for free-roaming across a scaled-down recreation of the Contiguous United States and includes both role-playing and large-scale multiplayer elements.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its release, primarily due to its always-online requirement and microtransactions, The Crew spawned a successful franchise with multiple sequels, including the recently released The Crew Motorfest. This latest installment, available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X|S, even earned a nomination in the Best Sport/Racing Game category at The Game Awards 2023. The news of the original title’s removal saddened many fans who witnessed the franchise’s growth throughout the years.

In addition to The Crew, Ubisoft had previously disclosed plans to shut down servers for ten other titles in the upcoming year. Among these titles are various classic Assassin’s Creed entries, Heroes of Might and Magic VI, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Trials Evolution, and more.
