The team working on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project has shared that they are currently working on the trilogy’s final installment. Director Tetsuya Nomura, scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, and composer Nobuo Uematsu discussed the challenges and commitment needed for this massive project during a special talk session.
During the talk found by GamesRadar, Nomura admitted that he hesitated to revisit the beloved classic due to the extensive work required. However, once the decision was made, there was no turning back. The responsibility not to leave fans with unfinished stories motivated them to move forward. Despite feeling the pressure of this “marathon of projects,” Nomura expressed eagerness to see the journey to its conclusion.
Marathon is an understatement; three games, especially games of the size of Final Fantasy 7, are no joke. The conversation turned positive when Uematsu, who composed music for the original Final Fantasy 7 and the recent remakes, expressed his willingness to return for the finale. “It would be my honor,” he said. Nomura then revealed, “Nojima and I are hard at work on it. We’re off to the races already.” This statement confirms that development on the third and final installment has begun.
“Part of me didn’t want to do it. I could already see how much work this was going to be, and once we got started, there was no throwing in the towel halfway through. You can’t leave things on a cliffhanger. You’re stuck now. It’s a massive undertaking. From the moment production started, I wanted it to end. At least now we’re finally past the midway point.”
Tetsuya Nomura
While there is no official announcement for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, Nomura’s comments show us that it’s a huge project for Square Enix. This is a reassuring sign for everyone waiting for the conclusion to Cloud and Sephiroth’s story. The team’s commitment, despite fatigue, shows us that they want to give us the best game we can get.
The participation of Nobuo Uematsu is raising expectations even more. His famous music is a big part of the Final Fantasy 7 experience, and his return pretty much assures another impressive soundtrack for the last part. We likely won’t see any kind of announcement for some time since the most recent release, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, is still fresh on everyone’s minds. However, this lets us know that the next one is coming on time.
