Fresh off a successful debut at The Game Awards, The Finals is experiencing an impressive surge in popularity, boasting a staggering 195,955 concurrent players as of this writing. Launched just yesterday, December 7, 2023, the first-person shooter from Embark Studios seems poised for a dominant run in the gaming scene.

During a trailer at The Game Awards, it was revealed that the game was released that same day. It was open to anyone, and the numbers have skyrocketed since it was released. The chart shown below shows that the player base has only grown. This directly competes with The Day Before, which bombed almost immediately. The beta was well received, and it shows just how much a good game can attract players.

Developed and published by Embark Studios, a subsidiary of Nexon, The Finals is a free-to-play, team-based FPS game that drops players into high-stakes, fast-paced matches. The game’s central feature is its destructible environment, which allows for strategic gameplay and constantly evolving battlegrounds. Players can utilize their surroundings to their advantage, taking cover, creating choke points, and causing tactical destruction to gain the upper hand.

With its innovative gameplay, impressive visuals, and free-to-play model, The Finals is rapidly capturing the attention of gamers worldwide. As the player count continues to climb, it will be interesting to see how Embark Studios further develops and supports the game to maintain its momentum and establish itself as a major player in the competitive FPS landscape.

I hope it continues to succeed; I’m tired of seeing the same games repeatedly. I want to see more competition in FPS games, and I want to see more new games that attract attention come out.
