The free-to-play arena shooter game, The Finals, will face major changes in Season 2. The game introduces a story with a hacker collective known as CNS infiltrating the game. This will give players some cryptic messages to decipher while they play the game and get to Season 2, set to launch on March 14th.

The new season brings significant changes to the game. According to a PlayStation Blog post written by developers, the imaginary hacker group has taken over the game. There will be new weapons for each class, gadgets, ability-altering maps, and AI contestants representing the hacker collective. Season 2 introduces the new Hacker Playstyle, allowing contestants to join the CNS. This playstyle includes a range of gadgets and specializations that can be used alongside existing skills for increased tactical flexibility.

Hackers can create barriers, remove walls, manipulate gravity, traverse the arena via tunnels, and modify objects, adding a fresh dimension to the game. The post also details some new tools and weapons. The Dematerializer (Mediums) is a tool that removes obstacles such as walls, ceilings, or goo, creating new lines of sight, attack routes, and traversal options.

The Anti-Gravity Cube (Heavys) is a cube that disrupts gravity in a specific area, lifting contestants and objects upwards. Its strategic use allows for creative movement and defensive strategies. The Gateway (Lights) creates a pair of limited-range portals that can be used for rapid repositioning. Though anyone can use a portal, players can neither see nor shoot through it, making it an ideal tool for surprise attacks or quick escapes.

The Data Reshaper (Mediums) is a gadget that offers a unique defensive and disruptive element by transforming enemy fortifications – or even random objects – into something entirely different. Mines become chairs, turrets become tables and established defensive positions can crumble with a well-aimed throw.

So it looks like Season 2 is really bringing in some changes to the game. Whether it’s enough to get a whole herd of players in still needs to be seen.
