Publisher Whitehorn Games has officially announced that the first-person environmental thriller puzzle game, The Forest Cathedral, is heading to PlayStation 5 this Halloween season, on October 31st. The game tells the dramatic reimagined story of the attempted silence of Rachel Carson leading up to her discoveries of the harmful pesticide known as DDT.
The Forest Cathedral is the second game developed by Brian Wilson, serving as a follow-up to his 2019 Where the Bees Make Honey. While drawing from similar creative influences, The Forest Cathedral charts a different course by emphasizing environmental awareness. Back in March 2023, The Forest Cathedral made its debut on Xbox and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
In The Forest Cathedral, players will take on the role of renowned American marine biologist, writer, and environmental advocate, Rachel Carson. The journey begins when Dr. Paul Müller, the inventor of DDT, tasked Carson to embark on a several-month-long expedition to investigate a remote island that has been sprayed with DDT. As players slowly uncover the effects of DDT, they will use advanced environmental technology to solve 2D and 3D connected puzzles scattered throughout the island.
Apart from Rachel Carson’s revelations concerning the harmful effects of DDT, The Forest Cathedral also dives into her personal life, offering insights into aspects such as her romantic relationships and ultimately, her passing.
The Forest Cathedral features a unique blend of 2D platforming and 3D exploration. This reimagining of the story of Rachel Carson immerses players in a meticulously crafted forested island. It boasts strikingly realistic graphics, along with a fully voiced dialogue and a captivating narrative. Adding to the immersive experience is its enchanting original soundtrack.
