While it may be possible to enjoy a video game on its own, listening to the music included with it adds another layer to the experience. Scenes that include a lot of action need upbeat or intense music, while in-game scenes that involve sadness are always accompanied by a dismal soundtrack.

Video game soundtracks are inextricably linked to the game’s main theme and aesthetic. The rise of cozy games has mostly contributed to popular cozy soundtracks on various music streaming platforms. Meanwhile, competitive games are also adding iconic theme music for their promotional videos. The majority of cinematic video games have music performed by a full orchestra. As such, it would be a waste if these video game music scores were not acknowledged in some kind of prestigious prize.
Video game soundtracks are increasingly being acknowledged on the same level as other genres of music, thanks to The Grammy Awards’ introduction of a new category for the “Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games.” Furthermore, the new prize category could inspire video game developers and music producers to improve the quality of the soundtracks they create for their titles. Some fans are already hoping that the video game soundtrack of their choice will be nominated for the Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games category at the 2023 Grammy Awards, the first time that this award will be presented.
