The House of the Dead Remake, a new version of the iconic rail shooter with more gameplay features from developer MegaPixel Studio and publisher Forever Entertainment, will release a physical edition for PlayStation 5 on September 5th, 2023. The physical release will include both the Standard and Limidead Edition, which adds a lenticular box and collectibles.

The House of the Dead Remake originally launched last year and is available now on PC, Nintendo Switcih, PlayStation and Xbox. You can watch today’s new trailer for the physical edition on publisher Microids’ YouTube channel:

The House of the Dead Remake first joined the PlayStation 5 back in January, so it does seem a little odd that the physical edition took so long to come around. Fan response has waned a bit lately, but the Limidead Edition does look pretty impressive.

The art design of the Limidead Edition box is terrific. The lighting is dramatic, which highlights just how colorful this box is. However, it still captures a sense of horror. Together, there’s almost a retro Return of the Living Dead attitude.

Of course, it would’ve been nice if the components within were of a higher quality. The character stands were a nice gesture, but they just don’t look very engaging. Today’s official blog post about the release calls them “silhouettes”, so it’s very likely the design was intended to replicate the in-game look.

Unfortunately, the display pieces could’ve used more acrylic, and currently look more like a mass market tabletop component. And most fans could probably do without the sticker sheet altogether.

The Limidead Edition might help renew some interest, but the game itself is already pretty solid. The modern updates aren’t too intrusive, and the quality-of-life features are all welcome additions.
