BioWare just announced their upcoming Dragon Age sequel, titled Dread Wolf, alongside a brand-new logo and just a small tease about the inspiration for the name.
Here’s the official tweet, which includes a twenty-second static video of the upcoming game’s logo:
Dragon Age: Inquisition is widely considered one of the best RPGs of all time, with some of the best immersion and open-world gameplay in the genre.
And yet, development of a third sequel has taken years, beginning in 2015 with the code-name “Joplin”. Sadly, the game ran into a series of setbacks, as reportedly employees were shifted around to focus on Anthem instead.
That makes it all the more tragic, since Anthem was widely considered dead on arrival, and the game never really recuperated from poor word of mouth.
Now, BioWare shares some clear details about Solas, the titular Dread Wolf. The character already has an intriguing history, as they’re potentially an “ancient elven god”, but BioWare has chosen to continue playing up the mystery behind their true origins and motives.
The description on the official blog concludes that Solas is basically a trickster, and is surely your antagonist regardless of whether they betrayed their own people or not. Either way, it’s clear that Solas is already plotting towards some kind of scheme.
One of the few updates about this game, a short trailer from 2018, teases that someone has only just found Solas, and has many questions:
Ultimately, BioWare confirms that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will not be releasing by the end of this year, and that players will still have control over the course of the story.
Although BioWare is focusing on brewing up fan buzz instead of truly answering any questions just yet, they also mention that they will provide players with more updates sometime this year.
