The Outlast Trials is an upcoming first-person psychological horror survival video game developed and published by Red Barrels. It is the third game in The Outlast series and serves as a prequel to the previous two games in the series. It centers on test subjects who are participating in a secret experiment during the Cold War.
Recently, Red Barrels announced in a new trailer that The Outlast Trials is set to enter Early Access on May 18th. Along with the Early Access announcement is a preview of the incredible performance of the voice actors. Back in June 2020, a teaser trailer for The Outlast Trials was released, with the announcement that the game will be published the following year in 2021. However, the release date was eventually pushed back to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, Red Barrels has been releasing “Behind The Scenes” videos on their official YouTube channel to keep the anticipation. A closed beta for the game was made available from October to November 2022. As of now, Red Barrels has yet to announce the release date of The Outlast Trials‘ full version.
With the beta and other trailers that were distributed before the Early Access launch, The Outlast Trials has been deemed promising. In addition, the campy and exaggerated depiction of horror villains that was present in earlier installments of the series seems to have been carried over into The Outlast Trials as well. Nonetheless, there are some from the beta who have also determined some drawbacks, so it is only hoped that the Early Access will show that all of the feedback and suggestions offered were truly implemented into The Outlast Trials.
