Players who’ve been brave enough to take on the world of S.T.A.L.K.E.R know that it is no small feat, with the survival aspects posing a challenge to new players. The series has a dedicated fanbase spanning generations and that was recently proven to be true when the board game was able to raise over a million dollars toward production in the first eight hours after being posted
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The Board Game, which met its base fundraising goal, in three and a half minutes was developed in collaboration between GSC Game World and sci-fi writers Marcin Mortka and Michał Gołkowsk. The goal of the team is to blend the same action, stealth, and difficult choices that players who’ve played the original have come to expect. It’s meant to appeal to both video game and board game players alike.
The trailer above shows off a special Legendary edition chest with a variety of collector’s items that players can receive when they put in $200. However, it doesn’t actually include a copy of the game, just a bunch of interesting collector’s items. Shipping is already baked into the price, which means that players can purchase now and not pay anything extra when it ships out in April next year.
GSC encourages players who are interested in the development of the project to follow along on the Gamefound page above. As of writing, the campaign has surpassed over 1.5 million dollars and seems to only keep going. As with most of these things, the publisher will likely keep pushing the stretch goal for as long as they can before the money stops coming in.
The anticipated S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl is expected to release at some point in 2023, but there hasn’t been any official announcement yet with the year half over.
