The Smurfs 2 – The Prisoner of the Green Stone, an upcoming action adventure with platformer elements from Osome Studio and Microids, will officially launch on November 2nd, 2023. It will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and current or last-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The announcement coincides with a new teaser featuring gameplay and the basic premise.
According to the game’s Steam page, this is set in the same universe as The Smurfs – Mission Vileaf, from the same devs. You can watch today’s reveal teaser for The Smurfs 2 – The Prisoner of the Green Stone on the Microids YouTube channel:
The Smurfs IP has consistently chugged along, getting reimagined in a variety of ways over the years, even including live-action film. The Smurfs are totally harmless, and they’ve been around long enough to basically become collectively nostalgic. They’ve also been adapted to a lot of different games, to the point that Smurfs Kart was recently announced with an August release.
The Smurfs – Mission Vileaf, the previous game from Osome Studio, was somewhat overlooked but received unexpectedly well. It’s an intentional throwback to old school 3D platformers, with graphics and mechanics that both resemble and emulate the 90’s and early 2000’s.
The Smurfs 2 – The Prisoner of the Green Stone wisely continues down this path, in today’s teaser. It has the same friendly tone and gameplay style, which is a good thing.
There will be plenty of new content, including lots of creative little enemies and fresh environments to explore. Running around for collectibles is a great pastime in adventure games, especially with platformers. It dares you to push the boundaries to their limits in your search. Hopefully, the co-op mode is handled a little better this time around.
