The Star Named EOS, an upcoming puzzle mystery game from indie developer and publisher Silver Lining Studio, will officially bring a free playable demo to Steam Next Fest. The event is scheduled to last from February 6th to February 13th, 2023.

A release date hasn’t been confirmed for The Star Named EOS, but you can wishlist it on Steam now. Here’s the new announcement from Silver Lining Studio’s feed:

Silver Lining Studio made quite an impression on the indie scene with Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery, which launched to rave reviews in August of 2021. That game had a similar tone, combining unique little puzzles with meaningful and profound drama.

The Star Named EOS introduces photography as the core of its premise, which was a smart follow-up to Behind the Frame’s painting. Photographs will be the new way to discover untold stories, and camerawork will allow the devs to guide players through more of their stunning art design.

Existing trailers also hint that the camera will be an interesting new tool for solving puzzles. Also, the official Steam page mentions a mystery about the protagonist’s missing mother, which has more agency and plot than Behind the Frame.

Now that Silver Lining Studio has made a name for itself, the free playable demo is a much-appreciated gesture. Depending on how the demo plays, it’ll be easier to tell when fans might expect a release window or launch date.

Gameplay footage for The Star Named EOS promises that it’ll deliver just as much ambition and scenery as Behind the Frame. Ideally, it will also maintain the same kind of balanced puzzles, which can easily become either too challenging or simple.
