The roster of Them’s Fightin’ Herds, a 2D fighting game, has been extended with the introduction of Stronghoof the Reindeer through a new DLC. Developed by Modus Games and Modus Studios, Stronghoof is now available for purchase on platforms such as PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Players have the option to buy Stronghoof individually for $4.99 or as part of the Season 1 Pass, which also features the brand-new Reine Ramparts stage.
Stronghoof’s ice-based magical attacks and winter sprite companion, Vetr, make him a formidable opponent in the game. This new character is the second addition in the game’s Season 1 Pass, which can be purchased separately or as part of Them’s Fightin’ Herds: Deluxe Edition for $39.99.
The Season 1 Pass includes four more playable characters, four unique stages, four exclusive Pixel Lobby accessories, and an exclusive palette for each character. Xbox One and Series X|S players can try Them’s Fightin’ Herds for free from April 13 – April 16 as part of Xbox Gold/Ultimate Free Play Days.
Them’s Fightin’ Herds features a cast of characters designed by Lauren Faust, known for her work on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Super Best Friends Forever. The game offers various modes, including Arcade, Local Versus, Tutorial, and Training, as well as online matchmaking features with GGPO rollback netcode. An episodic Story Mode blends top-down adventure with fighting game combat challenges.
The developers have also addressed various bugfixes in the latest update, including issues with Paprika’s gift eating and Pom’s dog attack canceling, which originated in version 4.0.1. They acknowledge the inconvenience of these issues and promise to take extra precautions to reduce the chances of similar bugs in future releases.
In other news, Stuart Ferguson, one of the game’s two musicians, has left Mane6 to work on other projects. Whitetail will now be the sole producer of music for Them’s Fightin’ Herds. As a result, the scope of the Dynamic Music System for new stages will be limited, starting with Stronghoof’s stage. However, stages with “full” DMS, like Texas’ stage, will still receive character themes for new roster members.
