Hell Pie, a deliberately crude twist on old school 3D platformers, is officially going to get a physical edition for the Nintendo Switch.

According to Super Rare Games, both a 2k standard and steelbook version will be available next week on February 23rd, 2023. Here is the full tweet from publisher Thunderful Games, which adds that there will only be 2000 limited edition copies:

Hell Pie is easily one of the strangest platformers in recent years. It has plenty of attitude, bizarre world and character designs, and a very inaccessible sense of humor. Its signature comedy, which appears to be designed to disturb, is going to be the defining obstacle for interested players.

But for those who are on board with something so rough around the edges, it’s going to be an absolute blast. It is completely unapologetic, and that’s a fun novelty. But the gameplay itself still functions just fine as a traditional platformer, giving the devs a proper foundation to toy around with.

It’s sort of like the difference between a typical spoof movie and the classics. It’s usually more satisfying when the movie succeeds as the genre it’s poking fun at.

Now that Hell Pie is getting physical editions, it would have been nice if the packaging was just as quirky and creative as the game itself. There could easily be some kind of edgy twist on physical releases, which often get a variety of collectibles and artwork. Instead, Hell Pie is getting some standard fare, but that should be enough for fans of the game.

Either way, hopefully the physical release renews interest in the game. It’d be nice to see where the developers at Sluggerfly take their offbeat comedy next.
