The New York Times has expanded its NYT Games app offering to include Tiles and Sudoku, broadening the scope of puzzles available for subscribers. Now, along with established word games like Spelling Bee, Wordle, The Crossword and The Mini, the app introduces logic and visual games into its repertoire.
The app, compatible with iOS and Android devices, was recently rebranded to NYT Games. It caters to all levels of puzzle enthusiasts, allowing users to refine their skills through its diverse puzzle selection.
Sudoku was introduced to the app in February, resulting in a noticeable increase in daily player engagement. The addition of Sudoku to the app led to an approximate 20% surge in the time players spend within the app, indicating a broadened interest across the available games. Sudoku’s daily player count rose by 50%, showcasing the puzzle’s popularity among the NYT Games community.
The color and pattern matching game, Tiles, is another new addition to the app. Launched in June 2019, Tiles invites players to form the longest possible sequence of tile pairings with matching components, using layered patterned squares. Over the past year, Tiles has seen steady growth, with nearly one million people engaging with the game each week.
The inclusion of Tiles and Sudoku in the NYT Games app reflects The New York Times’ commitment to offering a comprehensive selection of handcrafted puzzle experiences to subscribers. This expansion provides players with a wider variety of games, reinforcing the app’s goal of providing puzzles for every skill level.
