The fan-made project TimeSplitters Rewind is facing a challenging phase of development. The game aims to recreate the multiplayer experience of the classic TimeSplitters trilogy, but there is a near stoppage. In a recent update video, the team urgently expressed their need for help to complete the project.

The fan project has been in the works since 2013 after getting the green light from the previous rights holder, Crytek UK. Despite working on the project in their free time, the team has made substantial progress and provided regular video updates. However, their most recent video – which was found by Eurogamer – discusses a pivotal moment in the project’s future.

Lead writer Jake, ‘The Voice’ Parr, explains that due to the current state of the gaming industry, developers are facing significant challenges, making it difficult for them to prioritize working on Rewind. Parr pointed out that potential job cuts, uncertainty in the job market, and changes in the ownership of the TimeSplitters IP have all contributed to the project’s inconsistent development. Since Rewind is a voluntary endeavor, it’s understandable that developers have to prioritize their livelihoods over the project.

You can help them if you want. The TimeSplitters Rewind team is looking for more help and a clearer focus to complete and polish the experience. They need volunteer skills in various areas, such as character and environment art, technical design, and animation.

The team is open about the current uneven progress of their work. Different parts of the game are at different stages, with the Spaceways map progressing slower than the rest. They also mention that they don’t have enough resources to create new character models, music, and weapon animations. They admit that the first release may have very little content from TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect due to their limited manpower.

While an official release date has not been announced, TimeSplitters Rewind stands as the only active TimeSplitters project. This is pretty much the only hope for those who want to see a future for the series.
