Tales from Centropolis, a retro RPG indie from Pixelate Games, has just released a brand-new gameplay trailer ahead of its pivotal Kickstarter launch. The game features an augmented private eye in the 1920’s, and their investigations on the way to Centropolis. Here’s the new trailer from Pixelate Games’ official Twitter feed:
Tales from Centropolis has picked up a lot of steam lately, with hundreds of followers awaiting the Kickstarter launch, hinting at a successful campaign. However, Pixelate Games are naturally still seeking more support. Although an exact launch date wasn’t set for Kickstarter, the devs did mention that it would roll out next week in a follow-up tweet to market their new trailer:
Tales from Centropolis looks very much like a labor of love, where a lot of effort seems to be poured into every frame of today’s trailer. The environments each carefully blend sci-fi, film noir, and other various influences in such a way that any contrast feels deliberate. That’s a tough balancing act.
The visuals are also unexpectedly polished, with finer details and effects that establish the mood of the game’s influences without solely relying on them. For example, there’s a lot of strategically placed lighting, which tactically disrupts the dark and dreary settings.
Another notable addition to today’s trailer is the new music. Until today, the only trailer for Tales from Centropolis was a shorter preview, which included a lot of the same footage. The vintage vinyl sounds were nice, but the introduction of music that fits the particulars of each moment and scene was far more effective. For comparison, here is the full preview from a couple of months ago:
It’s clear that Tales from Centropolis is quickly evolving and improving. Fans should absolutely keep an eye on this, and support the devs so they can push the boundaries of their potential.
