Pirate’s Dynasty, an upcoming adventure RPG from burgeoning developer Golden Hind Games, has just been announced with a very brief teaser. It is expected to launch on Steam sometime in Q3 of 2023, with no word on other platforms. Here’s the announcement from publisher Toplitz Productions:
The first teaser is pretty disappointing. It features music that attempts to channel Pirates of the Caribbean, and gives no details about the game’s mechanics, let alone its genre. There is only a broad glimpse of the art style, but overall, the teaser could very well be selling a debut novel.
Sadly, this rather sells the game short, since other released details actually sound promising. It may have been more beneficial to leave the announcement as a simple post on their socials.
According to the new Steam product page, Pirate’s Dynasty will feature survival, building, and naval combat in a procedurally generated world. There are also some screenshots of 3D environments and characters that look fairly polished. It’s clearly too early on for a proper trailer, but when that arrives, it will certainly be interesting.
There are countless pirate-themed games, and even more are coming in 2023. Kalypso Media recently announced Tortuga – A Pirate’s Tale, which will be a turn-based strategy game. It can be difficult to stand apart, and so far, Pirate’s Dynasty sounds like an ambitious indie version of Skull and Bones, taking itself more seriously compared to the playful Sea of Thieves.
The opportunity for cooperative play is a welcome surprise. In addition to the procedural generation and customization options, the devs seem to have worked very hard to give players more freedom than usual for an indie pirate game. It was also sensible to blend in survival and construction management genres. Fans of swashbuckling and the pirate world should keep an eye on this one.
