The Cube of Rapacity Season in Torchlight offers exciting gameplay in both main story and map room stages. Players may encounter monsters marked with greed by the Cube of Rapacity. Defeating these special foes rewards players with a unique crystal and an item exclusive to that map, which can be taken out of the map after defeating the stage boss. The new season will begin on May 9th, 2023.

Upon defeating the stage boss, the Cube of Rapacity appears, and players can offer a certain number of crystals to receive random rewards. However, excessive greed may anger the Cube, causing players to lose all collected rewards. The Cube also lures powerful bosses and special monsters, presenting new challenges and greater rewards for stage clearing.

This season introduces an exclusive talent called “Avarice Code,” allowing players to influence the rewards or challenges presented by the Cube. This enables a unique gaming experience with different seasonal talent strategies at a minimal cost.

There’s more to the season than just this: when drawing rewards from the Cube, players might receive a Cube of Craving filled with even rarer and more valuable prizes. The Cube of Rapacity also drops a unique item called “Desired Beats,” which can be traded with black market merchants for precious goods.

Special monsters drop another item, “Desired Cores,” which serve as tokens to challenge the supreme boss, Lord Bearerus, the High Court of Desire’s Supreme Judge. This formidable foe presents a tough challenge, but defeating Lord Bearerus rewards players with special and highly sought-after items, including a new season-exclusive item, the “Unifying Wedge,” used to restore Divinity Slates.

The Divinity Slate, a key component in the new Statue of the New God system, is introduced in this season. The New God has gifted hunters with a unique talent panel, the Statue of the New God. Unlike previous talent panels, hunters can now combine and place multiple Divinity Slates on the statue, receiving powerful buffs. Each slate is associated with a specific god and can hold up to two random talent affixes related to that god, allowing hunters to harness the power of the six gods without restriction.

Hunters can enhance Divinity Slates using a special branding method, but once branded, the slates become untradeable. Successful branding either adds a new affix or upgrades an existing one. There’s a small chance that an upgraded affix transforms into the New God’s exclusive talent affix, “Divine Entropy,” granting hunters control over order and chaos. However, each Divinity Slate has a limited number of branding opportunities, making it challenging to acquire Divine Entropy.

Unwanted Divinity Slates can be converted into Divinity Fragments, which can be used to craft new random Divinity Slates or traded freely. The New God also provides hunters with access to powerful Legendary Divinity Slates, containing Divine Entropy, amplifying order and chaos effects, and allowing hunters to tap into the power of the six gods for even stronger buffs.

New Heroes: Bing & Thea

In addition to the season-exclusive gameplay and new systems, Torchlight unveils new heroes for players to explore.

Bing, also known as The Escapist, is famous for his flashy and powerful explosive skills. With an uncanny ability to turn anything into a powerful bomb, Bing relies on his exceptional escape skills for survival. His first hero trait, Blast Nova, allows him to load projectiles into deadly bombs that explode in a star-shaped pattern. Hunters can learn traits to throw multiple bombs at once, attach bombs to enemies, or add special effects, with more bombs leading to greater explosion damage.

Thea’s hero trait, Incarnation of the Gods, transforms her from a mere conduit for divine will into a scepter-wielding deity. Thea consumes blessings to grant short-term explosive buffs, dealing indirect damage and converting godly blessings. Outside her divine realm, she converts tenacity blessings into agility blessings to deal massive damage to enemies with full life. Inside the realm, she converts agility blessings into tenacity blessings, granting defense boosts and dealing damage to enemies with low life. However, Thea’s transformation comes at a cost: her body must withstand negative effects, requiring strategic use of blessings and divine realm entry.

Escapist Bing can be unlocked by purchasing the season pass, while Incarnation of Gods can be acquired with Primal Crest or traded for hero emblems. Both heroes offer unique gameplay experiences, encouraging hunters to strategize and adapt to new challenges in the Torchlight: Infinite Cube of Rapacity Season.

New Skills & Mechanics

This season, Torchlight introduces a range of new skills, mainly focusing on Centric skills, with one Shadow strike skill and one summer skill. Thunder Spike, a new Shadow strike skill, guarantees shock on enemies within a certain area when landing a critical strike, making it an essential skill for clearing maps or battling tough enemies.

Ghostblade and Harrier, the new Centric skills, summon dagger-wielding and bow-wielding minions respectively. These minions target and attack nearby enemies, inheriting the hunter’s multi-strike chance bonuses and increasing their damage potential. Thundercore, a lightning spell sentry, releases several thunder strikes on nearby enemies, providing robust firepower support for hunters.

Frost Core, a unique cold spell sentry, extracts freeze by rating from enemies to increase damage dealt. Summon Green Phantom, a new synthetic troop summon skill, automatically summons phantoms periodically, dealing high burst damage when activated.

Thirteen new legendary gears are prepared for hunters this season, two of which are Law of the Supreme and Breaking the Internal Wrist. These legendary gears grant unique powers from the new God, allowing hunters to strategize and manage negative effects for powerful buffs.

New mechanics include Spell Burst, a powerful development system that enables easy semi-automatic spell casting, and Command, designed for summoning builds, which introduces additional development paths for synthetic troop minions and increased damage potential. These new mechanics provide engaging and dynamic experiences for hunters, bringing new possibilities and challenges to Torchlight: Infinite Cube of Rapacity Season.

New Crafting System

The new crafting system combines the strengths of its predecessor while tackling previous issues, such as the lack of excitement and unpredictability during crafting. The new system is built upon two components: prototype crafting and targeted processing.

Prototype crafting allows players, known as Hunters, to lock up to two affixes on a piece of equipment, transforming it into a prototype gear with up to four predetermined affixes. This process retains advanced effects on the gear, but its adaptability decreases with each crafting attempt. Note that prototype crafting is not applicable on gear with zero neuroplasticity.

This approach elevates the looting experience by turning advanced affix gear drops into valuable crafting materials, making crafting more thrilling overall. Targeted processing, on the other hand, replaces the old crafting method. Although Hunters can still use Amber to craft desired affixes, they no longer have the ability to save or undo affixes during a single crafting attempt.

Instead, players can pay a certain fee to restore the gear to its initial state before targeted processing. It is advised that Hunters first use prototype crafting to create high-quality prototype gear and then apply targeted processing to craft additional affixes. This combination simplifies the acquisition of powerful gear, while making the creation of the best equipment more challenging and strategic, ultimately enhancing the overall crafting experience for players.
