Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, the popular physics-based battle sim from developer and publisher Landfall, will officially launch onto PlayStation 4 on September 5th, 2023.
A new official blog post notes that a PS4 version is being released so that fans wouldn’t have to wait for the next-gen version to be completed. The devs have stated that they’re already working on getting it onto the PlayStation 5, but “it will take a while before it can be released”.
Today’s blog also mentions that the PlayStation 4 release won’t have the Workshop feature or cross-play, and that the units cap is 30 per side.
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, better known as TABS, was an instant hit when it originally launched in 2021. It’s available now on PC, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch. You can watch today’s release date announcement teaser on the Landfall YouTube channel:
After its initial launch, TABS took over a year to get a Nintendo Switch release in November 2022. Ports have taken quite a while, so when the devs say that a PlayStation 5 version is still far in the distance, it’s very likely to take well into 2024.
TABS is a classic indie gem with a terrific sense of humor, which is noticeable throughout its design, gameplay, and physics. The way it indulges wacky, unpredictable chaos is a real treat. And its sim-based gameplay loop has better range than some other physics-driven indies like Gang Beasts.
While the devs do plan on eventually adding Workshop to the PlayStation 4 version, there’s currently no word on cross-play in the future. That’s a shame, but PlayStation fans will surely be relieved to finally play, either way.
The devs have been busy, and back in March, they released Landfall Archives for free. It’s a collection that includes an unreleased version of TABS, as well as other unreleased games, demos, and more.
