Under The Waves, an upcoming narrative-driven adventure game developed by Parallel Studio and published by Quantic Dream has revealed its official release date earlier at the Summer Game Fest event.
Under The Waves is set in the depths of the North Sea in the techno-futuristic 1970s. It follows the story of Stan, a professional diver working for an oil company, as he struggles to overcome a life-changing loss and embrace a new future. The game reflects his troubled state of mind through the isolating nature of the deep sea. As Stan willingly embraces solitude, strange events begin to unfold beneath the ocean’s surface, compelling him to make a difficult choice between staying lost in the depths forever or breaking free to the surface for the rest of his life.
Under The Waves was first revealed in August 2022 at Gamescom. Recently at Summer Game Fest 2023, it was announced that the game will launch on August 29th for PC via Steam and EGS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Apart from the release date, an enticing glimpse into the game’s features and narrative was revealed.
Under The Waves is described as a love letter to the ocean’s wonders, inviting players to explore a visually stunning underwater world meticulously crafted with cinematic flair and captivating storytelling. Piloting Stan’s submarine, players will wander the vast seabed and encounter the beautiful wildlife. With Stan’s special wetsuit, players will be able to explore caves, wrecks, and underwater plants, all while unraveling the mysterious manifestations of Stan’s memories and finding a way back to the surface to save his life. As players progress, they will collect materials and craft equipment that will help Stan navigate further on this self-discovery expedition.
Beyond the immersive oceanic adventure, Parallel Studio and Quantic Dream have partnered with Surfrider Foundation Europe, uniting their efforts to amplify the organization’s environmental message. Through the interactive medium of Under The Waves, the developers and the organization aim to raise awareness about the imperative need for ocean preservation.
Under the Waves is now available to wishlist on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store.
