Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, originally slated to launch on the same day as Valkyrie Elysium next week, has officially been delayed. The game will be available on December 22nd, 2022, instead. The devs have stated that they need to “improve the quality of the title”, according to today’s tweet:

While it’s always worthwhile for devs to delay games that require polishing, so as to deliver a functioning title and enjoyable experience, this delay is pretty unfortunate for anyone who pre-ordered the Deluxe edition of Valkyrie Elysium. It’s made clear that owners won’t receive their copy until the new release date.

Valkyrie Profile is the first installment in the series, so that would help new fans rediscover the origins of the story. Without that, it could be very disappointing for newcomers who expected to learn about the story origins before playing the latest title.

The Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth addition would also be a re-release that’s been in the making for a long time, and a selling point for the Deluxe Edition. Still, die-hard fans quickly noted that the new release date for December 22nd does synchronize with Valkyrie Profile’s original release in Japan, back in 1999. It’s a nice way to try to maintain the synergy.

It’s still unclear if the Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth release is a direct port or a remaster. Fans are hoping for the latter, since a direct port arguably shouldn’t require the devs to “improve the quality” much.

Besides, delaying the game for three full months does seem pretty lengthy if they’re only fixing up a few technical issues. Of course, the 2018 release of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth naturally had features that the original Valkyrie Profile did not.
