Valorant, the highly popular free-to-play team shooter from developer and publisher Riot Games, will officially launch Premier’s Global Open Beta on April 25th, 2023. It was first announced last month and will introduce a new, in-game path for players to legitimate VCT Challenger leagues.

According to the FAQ section of a brand-new blog post, the Premier Open Beta will run through May 23rd, 2023, and the full launch is still expected “later this year”. Unfortunately, match and team history will not carry over to the full release.

Today’s teaser video breaks down Premier into three key phases of enrollment, competition, and tournaments. You can watch the full “How to Play” video on Valorant’s YouTube channel here:

The release date is surprisingly soon, but players who would be interested in serious competition like Premier have probably been keeping up their skills anyway.

Also, the Global Open Beta is just a technical test. But it’s going to be absolutely crucial for Riot Games, now that Premier will help shape and define actual careers.

With the bonus of professional gameplay and potential, even the slightest technical hiccups could affect the lives of players quite seriously. Although there has always been fan backlash for one thing or another, beginning Premier on the wrong footing could result in major negativity.

Broader mechanics like matchmaking will be scrutinized more closely. However, the devs have done their best to tighten things up with various processes like the divisions, which group people based on “the average MMR” of a team’s top five players.

It might be advisable to make sure your teammates take the game as seriously as you do. There’s no question that Premier has the opportunity to become something special, and usher in entire generations of eSports stars.
