Eye of the Temple, a VR adventure from developer Rune Skovbo Johansen and publisher Salmi Games, has officially launched onto Meta Quest today. A new gameplay trailer shows off a variety of puzzles, traps, and obstacles with a treasure-hunting theme, akin to Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider.

Eye of the Temple originally launched on Steam in October 2021, and is now available on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro. There’s still no word on plans for a PS VR2 port. You can watch today’s full launch trailer on the Meta Quest YouTube channel here:

Eye of the Temple has chosen its theme wisely. The naturally contained setting, and the complex mechanics it provides, lend themselves to room scale VR gameplay.

Eye of the Temple also has that signature, golden look of its influences, and players even get the chance to wield their own whip. At first glance, casual players are likely to dismiss this as some kind of knock-off version of classic blockbusters.

But it does find its own personality, particularly in the way it handles virtual reality. Eye of the Temple is unusually immersive, with obstacles that encourage players to engage with more than simple hand gestures. Further, because the temple itself is directly challenging players, the space feels more alive than traditional adventure VR games.

There is something very bright and playful in Eye of the Temple, not only in its art design, but also in its accessible mechanics. Even though one is far more likely to lose their balance in something like this, fans have also praised how intuitive the game can feel. So, it’s surely a welcome addition to the Meta Quest library.
